As a young boy I once tried to plug my family’s Apple IIe computer (remember those..) into our television set. I wanted to record television shows on the computer. I was young enough to not understand that at the time, it wasn’t possible.

As you know, one of the best virtues of children is that anything is possible and, as is turns out, it is possible to record video on a computer….I guess I was just ahead of my time…

That was then, this is now…. .

Video on the internet has revolutionized popular media. Now instead of watching TV and being told what you can watch, you can choose from just about anything on the internet. The major networks no longer have a hold on you. You can go on You Tube , or a variety of other sites, and do a search for just about anything. Topics rang from politics, to how to make a great margarita, or you can watch Opera and Eckhart Tolle do a world wide web cast to hundreds of thousands of people (incredible when you think about it). You get the point; anything goes in the world of online video. The only limit is people’s imagination.

Oh, and another example, itunes recently launched the capability to rent (or purchase) the latest Hollywood block buster move, Online. WOW!

So, how is this changing the world we live in?

Never before has it been possible for an individual to voice his/her opinion to the rest of the world, for FREE. That may not sound important, but it represents a major dilution of popular media. The flip side to this is that the viewer has complete control of what he/she watches.

This new revolution allows anyone to persuade the rest of us, and if you are good at it, you stand to make a small fortune, or at the very least gain a following. Fortunes are already being made; look at Google; it purchased You Tube for 1.65 Billion dollars (yes billion). So if you think that video on the internet is a passing trend, think again.

As with any paradigm shift, there are countless opportunities that follow. The savvy person will identify these and create (or modify) a business to exploit this new technology. We have already witnessed major shifts in the way commerce is conducted via the net, wait until video really sets in…

Recently I have educated myself on exactly how to market on the internet using video. Because of my new found knowledge, my business is growing faster then ever before. This is yet another example of how video on the internet is having an effect on the average person.

At the end of the day it’s really anyone’s guess where video on the internet will lead us, but one thing is for certain, the world is rapidly changing and those who adapt with it and the changing technologies will reap the rewards.
