As a result of being a home business owner for the last four years, I have noticed a consistent pattern of what makes or breaks an individual when they first start out .
It has nothing to do with their background, and everything to do with their vision for their future. So many people get caught up in the mechanics of starting a business that they very rarely take the time to learn what really will make them a successful entrepreneur. I have compiled a list of ten common denominators, which when followed correctly, will give anyone the best shot at owning a successful home business.
1) Take responsibility for your current situation. It is OK to be where you are right now in your life (good or not so good), but know that it had been your decisions that created it. Where you are right now is all part of the path to where you are going.
2) Once you take responsibility for where you are right now, you can start to take ownership of where you would like to go. This is the fun part. Allow yourself to dream without doubting what you dream is possible. The key to this exercise is to dream from your heart. What do you really want in your life? Not what you think others want for you. Write down all of your thoughts. Once you have an idea, know that what you want is possible. If you don't think it is, take a look around; are there other people who have what you would like? If the answer is yes, then it is definitely possible for you.
3) Everyday, several times a day, read the list of dreams you have composed. Start to ingrain the images, and more importantly, the emotions of how you will feel when you are living what you dreamed of in step two. Trust in your vision for yourself, don't think twice what others may say is not possible for you.
4) Step four is the turning point for you vision, it is where you start to take action. If you are a student of personal development, you have probably heard what I am about to tell you, but it is defiantly worth repeating. It is called the -BE-DO-HAVE- principal. Let's break this down. It states that you have to BE the person you vision to BE, then you must DO the things that person would do on a daily basis, and as a result you will HAVE the things that person has. I suggest you write -BE-DO-HAVE- in large letters and post it in a place where you will see it several time per day.
5) So far we have done a lot of thinking and dreaming. Now it is time to take action. We know that what you have done up to this point has not brought you the results you are looking for. Needless to say, that is why you want to have a successful home business. You are going to require a business vehicle to make your dreams a reality. You have two choices; A) Start a new business based on your own idea, or B) Become involved with a business system that is working for others. Unless you have a great idea and deep pockets, choice A can be very difficult. Choice B, on the other hand, can get you in business very quickly. The problem is what business system do you utilize? A McDonalds Franchise? A Subway Franchise? A online business? There really are thousands of possibilities. You need to find one and stick with it. The last five steps will help you decide which opportunity will be right for you.
6) Perhaps the most important step in finding a business system is partnering up with a mentor who is already making the business work and is willing to show you the ropes. You need someone you can call for assistance and support. Make sure that you connect well with this person.
7) Whatever business you choose, you will be marketing some type of product and/or service. Make absolute certain that you can feel good about what you are going to be selling. If you do not want to buy it yourself, chances are that no one will want to buy it from you.
8) Learn about the owner or owners of the company you are gong to be involved with. What is their track record? What have they accomplished in the past? Are they people with whom you want to associate with?
9) Make sure there is going to be continued training and support once you get started. This is huge. So many companies out there promise the world to get you through the door, but once inside, you are left to figure everything out on your own.
10) And finally, don't take forever to make up you mind on what business to start. Establish a certain time frame to do your research and due diligence on a handful of companies. Narrow your choices down to your best pick, and get started. Once started, don't give up. You probably will not have tremendous results your first month. Don't get discouraged. Give yourself at least one year to really make the business work for you. Be willing to have fun and learn the new skills you are going to require to become a successful home business owner.

It is often said that you can not know where you are going without knowing where you have been. I believe this statement should say "you can not know where you are going until you take Responsibility for where you have been" . It is much easier to blame others for your circumstances then take a long hard look at yourself. You see, it is you who made all the decisions, both good and not so good, that have lead you to where you are right now. You would not blame others for the success you have had in the past, so why in the world would blame others for your failures?
When you are looking to start a new home based business, it is all too easy to come up with a handful of excuses why any given opportunity you look at will not work for you. The most popular are; "Home based businesses never work" or "That business costs too much money, it must be a scam". More than likely these objections surface immediately and prevent you from ever finding out exactly what the proposed business entails. When you look to blame, you release your personal power to make your own decisions and you will never truly move forward in your life. The quickest and most effective way to change this is to take personal responsibility for you actions and your past. By doing so you allow yourself to move forward, and give yourself the opportunity to take chances and make mistakes. It is through mistakes that you grow, but only if you know it was you who made the mistake and do not blame others.
Finding success in a home business is no different. You must be open to possibilities and opportunities. When you do find the right business you will be walking into uncharted territory. This territory will be filled with highs and lows, great feats and brutal failures. It is all part of being a business owner. Too truly prosper in this new territory you must be willing to pat yourself on the back for you accomplishments and hold yourself accountable for your mistakes. Every mistake you make will offer an opportunity to learn and gain the knowledge you require to become successful.
When you consistently take responsibility for all of your actions you will become very confident in everything that you do. Confidence will give you the power to keep moving forward into new uncharted territory and find the kind of success you only dreamed possible.

Avoiding Internet Scams and Finding Legitimate Internet Business Opportunities
First of all, it's Not Your Fault...
Have you have ever been "Ripped Off" by a business opportunity , or someone promising you great results if you purchase their product, only to find out it's a bunch of B.S? I want you to know it's not your fault.
We've all been there, my self more time then I care to admit.
We come across something online that looks like it maybe the answer to our problems, whatever those problems may be. You know how it goes, you are online researching for a solution to your problem, perhaps it's a lack of money.
\So you think starting a small business on the internet will solve the problem and give you the additional cash flow you are looking for. You Google "Home Business", and there it is, at the top of the page. It reads "Earn 20K this month, from home". While it does sound too good to be true, you are a little excited and want to believe it's true. You click on the link. You read through the sales copy on the web page, and boy does it sound great . You read some testimonies of regular people who made it big, and you think to yourself, I'm no different then them, I too could make this work.
You keep reading through the page and towards the bottom you see what you knew was coming, that's right it's going to cost you money . You see that it's only $99, and for all the information they are promising, it seems like an ok deal, they even offer a money back guarantee.
Once again you reach into your wallet for your credit card and place the order. You've done it again; ordered what you think will be the answer to your prayers, only to find out that it's a bunch of crap.
It's a never ending cycle. You see, the person selling you the information is usually making all their money from the sales of the information, not by doing what the information details to do to make money.
Once you come to realize this, it becomes much easier to look at all the various opportunities online and scrutinize whether or not they are legitimate.
Here is what I did at one point when I got really ticked off at all of those Snake Oil Salesmen online. I would purchase their product and look through their content. If it was a bunch of B.S, I return it for a refund, which they make it almost impossible to do, then I would write in forums and any place I could online how bad their product was and why others should avoid. I don't know if it did any good, but it made me feel better.
After four years of internet marketing and thousand of dollars spent on worthless products , I finally know how to pick through the B.S. and only spend my money when I know it's a great product.
Two years ago I got involved with a company (after doing some serious research) that has turned out to be the best decision I ever made. This company supplied me with some great products to market and even showed me how to go about marketing them. I am one of the fortunate ones; most people just keep falling into the same old trap and loose their money in all kinds of scams.

Internet Video is Killing the TV
As a young boy I once tried to plug my family's Apple IIe computer (remember those..) into our television set. I wanted to record television shows on the computer. I was young enough to not understand that at the time, it wasn't possible.
As you know, one of the best virtues of children is that anything is possible and, as is turns out, it is possible to record video on a computer....I guess I was just ahead of my time...
That was then, this is now.... .
Video on the internet has revolutionized popular media. Now instead of watching TV and being told what you can watch, you can choose from just about anything on the internet. The major networks no longer have a hold on you. You can go on You Tube , or a variety of other sites, and do a search for just about anything. Topics rang from politics, to how to make a great margarita, or you can watch Opera and Eckhart Tolle do a world wide web cast to hundreds of thousands of people (incredible when you think about it). You get the point; anything goes in the world of online video. The only limit is people's imagination.
Oh, and another example, itunes recently launched the capability to rent (or purchase) the latest Hollywood block buster move, Online. WOW!
So, how is this changing the world we live in?
Never before has it been possible for an individual to voice his/her opinion to the rest of the world, for FREE. That may not sound important, but it represents a major dilution of popular media. The flip side to this is that the viewer has complete control of what he/she watches.
This new revolution allows anyone to persuade the rest of us, and if you are good at it, you stand to make a small fortune, or at the very least gain a following. Fortunes are already being made; look at Google; it purchased You Tube for 1.65 Billion dollars (yes billion). So if you think that video on the internet is a passing trend, think again.
As with any paradigm shift, there are countless opportunities that follow. The savvy person will identify these and create (or modify) a business to exploit this new technology. We have already witnessed major shifts in the way commerce is conducted via the net, wait until video really sets in...
Recently I have educated myself on exactly how to market on the internet using video. Because of my new found knowledge, my business is growing faster then ever before. This is yet another example of how video on the internet is having an effect on the average person.

WOW, Now That's a Pyramid Scheme
Chances Are You Are In a Pyramid Scheme Right Now...
I still remember the day I was exposed to my first pyramid scheme , I was in grade nine, and of course I had no idea what I was getting involved with. My whole class was buzzing about how this was going to make us all rich, and all we had to do was fill in people (and their money) in the levels below us. I remember attending a meeting at a hotel and being so excited that I signed up on the spot....
Then, about a day later, I realized that almost everyone in my social network who would even think twice about becoming an entrepreneur in grade nine, had also signed up. WHO was I going to enroll now?? And that was the problem, with no marketing know how (or budget), my dreams of becoming rich quick at the ripe age of 14 where shattered.
That was the problem then and it's still the problem now. The idea of the pyramid scheme is great, but in reality it falls apart, or so I thought....
Fast forward a fifteen years, now I am a internet entrepreneur involved with a direct sales company, and at the age of 29 I have struck gold. This time there is proof in my bank account, I am actually making money, a lot of money. It makes my years spent as a bartender look like a complete waste of time. As if I had wasted years at an entry level corporate job, then one day wake up, and I am the CEO (earning wise at least).
And then it hits me, the Classic Pyramid Scheme has existed around me my whole life. It is literally everywhere you look. But, no one wants to admit it.
What am I talking about?....Corporations...
Let's take a closer look. The hero in this story will be a guy named Sam...Sam completes university with a degree in business administration. Life is grand and Sam is so optimistic about his future that it would make a middle age guy sick. Sam goes out and gets an entry level job at a bank. Compared to Sam's school days he is making some serious money, $30K per year. As a bachelor at age of 24 it's great. As time goes on Sam gets a promotion here and there, gets more responsibility, more status, gets moved around the country ect....Sam is climbing the "Corporate Latter". Sam's optimism is still there, but perhaps not as strong as it once was.
Life goes on...Sam is now 39, and is still at the same bank with a middle management position and is now earning $60K per year, double what he started with. Problem is there is really nowhere left for Sam to climb. The job positions above him are getting fewer and fewer as he climbs the latter. There are more people fighting for a handful of jobs. The optimism Sam once had is now replaced with a hint of pessimism and regret.
Sam stays where he is, no place to advance to and a glass ceiling on his salary.
Take a close look at this story, Yes, it's a corporate pyramid.
And in our society there is nothing wrong with it. But when someone gets involved with a business opportunity that requires the enrollment of people...Stand Clear, it's a Pyramid!
The classic business opportunity pyramid scheme has come a long way. No longer is it a straight pyramid. There are now products and real opportunity involved with them. They give the average person an opportunity to reach the top, become the CEO and earn the big dollars.
Think what you may, but today take a look around you, you are probably involved with some kind of Pyramid. And if that is the case, would you rather be in one that limits you and your earning potential or would you be happier with the freedom to advance as far as you want with no limits, a place where your skills and determination are the factors in your success.
